Fujianese Overseas Chinese in Japan Visit Fujian to Promote Economic and Cultural Exchanges and Cooperation

Fuqing, Fujian, June 4 (Reported by Zheng Songbo) – Recently, a delegation from the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association visited various locations in Fujian, including Wuyishan, Fuzhou, and Fuqing, to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields between Fujian and Japan。
Chen Shihai, Chairman of the Fujian Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Meets with President Wu Qilong and His Delegation
During the visit to Fujian, Chen Shihai, Chairman of the Fujian Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and Vice Chairman Weng Xiaojie met with Wu Qilong, President of the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association, and Executive Vice President Li Yunshu, among others.Chen Shihai extended a warm welcome to the guests and expressed gratitude for the strong support provided by the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association to their hometown in Fujian during last year’s COVID-19 pandemic. Chen Shihai encouraged Fujianese overseas Chinese organizations in Japan to unite the Fujianese diaspora, foster win-win cooperation, and establish a robust platform to promote economic and cultural exchanges between Japan and Fujian. He urged them to continue contributing to advancing cooperation in various fields between China and Japan 。

During the visit to Wuyishan, Huang Wei, Chairman of the Nanping Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese; He Minsheng, a senior officer of the Nanping United Front Work Department; Chen Zuhua, Chairman of the Wuyishan Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese; and Chen Li, Deputy Minister of the Wuyishan United Front Work Department, met with President Wu Qilong. They had a cordial conversation with him and emphasized that the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese will always be a warm home for overseas Chinese。

During their visit to their hometown in Fuqing, President Wu Qilong, Executive Vice President Li Yunshu, and their delegation visited the Jianhao Aquaculture and Marine Biotechnology Project in Donghan Town, Fuqing City. This Sino-Japanese collaborative project, introduced by the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association, incorporates Japanese deep-water aquaculture technology for kelp, nori, aonori, and other seaweed products, along with processing production lines. The project’s advanced extraction and refining technology, as well as its production of natural seasoning ingredients, fills a significant gap in the domestic market。

Accompanied by Lin Wenqing, President of the Fuqing Huangbo Culture Promotion Association and the Japan General Incorporated Association Huangbo Culture Promotion Association, the delegation of the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association visited Shizhu Mountain in Fuqing for cultural exchange. They were warmly welcomed and hosted by Daoist Master Xie Rongzeng, Vice President of the China Taoist Association, President of the Fujian Taoist Association, and Abbot of the Shizhu Mountain Taoist Temple in Fuqing. The two sides engaged in discussions to promote cultural exchanges between China and Japan。
During their visit to Fujian, President Wu Qilong and his delegation learned that the Nagasaki Confucius Temple was facing financial difficulties due to decreased income caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and was seeking assistance from the overseas Chinese community in Japan. They immediately mobilized members of the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association to carry forward the Chinese tradition of unity and mutual support by actively donating funds. They also joined forces with the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan, the Huangbo Culture Promotion Association, and other overseas Chinese organizations to provide assistance。
Nagasaki is the birthplace of overseas Chinese in Japan, and Fujianese immigrants, particularly those from Fuqing, have made significant contributions to the construction and management of the Nagasaki Confucius Temple.According to the History of Fuqing Overseas Chinese, the Nagasaki Confucius Temple was destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II.After the war, Fuqing-born overseas Chinese Chen Yangchun, the son of Chen Pingshun, owner of Nagasaki’s Chinese restaurant Sihailou, organized fundraising among overseas Chinese in Kyushu, Japan, to purchase the land rights to the temple’s ruins and rebuild it.Throughout its history, the Nagasaki Confucius Temple and its Chinese History Museum have been largely managed by Fuqing-born overseas Chinese。
