Fuqing is a key hometown for overseas Chinese, with many Fuqing-born Chinese living in Japan. The Japan-China Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce was registered in Tokyo on February 5, 2020. The first thing the chamber did after its establishment was to donate epidemic prevention supplies to its hometown。
Since its founding, the Japan-China Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Education and Assistance for the Disabled to support charitable causes in Fuqing。
On August 3, 2020, to strengthen ties with the hometown and handle related matters promptly, the Japan-China Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce established a liaison office in Fuqing at the Fuqing Huangbo Cultural Promotion Association. During the opening ceremony, the representative of the Japan-China Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce in Fuqing handed over donations from overseas Fuqing members totaling 1,805,000 yen (approximately 120,000 RMB) to the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Education and Assistance for the Disabled to support local educational development. Each supported student received 2,000 RMB。
On September 13, 2022, the Japan-China Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce continued its charitable efforts by raising 2.65 million yen (approximately 128,000 RMB) from 34 patriotic overseas Chinese. The funds were donated to support 32 students (4,000 RMB per year) through the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Education and Assistance for the Disabled’s charity platform。
To date, the Japan-China Fuqing Chamber of Commerce has sponsored 139 needy students from its hometown.
In response, Yang Changfei (Japanese name: Watanabe Ryuuji), the president of the Japan-China Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce, stated, "Contributing to the educational charity work of our hometown is a small expression of the patriotic and hometown-loving spirit of overseas Chinese." Going forward, the Japan-China Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce will work with all sectors of the hometown to unite the efforts of overseas Chinese in Japan and contribute to various public welfare initiatives in Fuqing, making new contributions to the joint development of overseas Chinese and their hometown。
