Civilizations Flourish Through Exchange and Diversity. The theme of the exhibition, "Harmony," signifies the joint effort to create a beautiful era of peace and expresses the wish for generations of Sino-Japanese friendship.Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is regrettable that Chinese participating artists were unable to travel to Tokyo for the art exchange at the Chinese Culture Center. However, the exhibition's opening ceremony received tremendous support from over 60 Japanese friends, overseas Chinese, and representatives from various circles residing in Tokyo. These guests overcame the special restrictions of the pandemic period, gathering at the Tokyo Chinese Culture Center and greatly inspiring the creative passion of artists from both countries。
The Organizing Committee expressed special gratitude to the Tokyo Chinese Culture Center for its consistent strong support, as well as to the Sino-Japanese friendship organization, the Obaku Cultural Promotion Association, for its active sponsorship. The committee acknowledged that these efforts have propelled the deeper development of Sino-Japanese artistic and cultural exchanges.Tracing the roots of Obaku culture, it originated from the Ming and early Qing periods, when Zen Master Yinyuan and others traveled to Japan, bringing Chinese architecture, sculpture, calligraphy, printing, and the practices of Zen tea and dietary traditions. These contributions significantly influenced Japanese Zen Buddhism and have been inscribed in the annals of Sino-Japanese cultural exchange。
