Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan September 13, 2022, 10:05 PM
On September 13, the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan held a donation event to support education at the Huangbo Cultural Promotion Association Hall in Yuping Subdistrict, Fuqing City (the Chamber's liaison office in Fuqing). The event was attended by Gao Jugui, Deputy Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Fuqing Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Federation of Industry and Commerce. Leaders from the Fuqing Municipal Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, the Overseas Chinese Federation, the New Social Strata Federation, Yuping Subdistrict, and the Yuping Overseas Chinese Federation, as well as representatives of overseas Chinese from Fuqing currently residing in Japan, also participated。
Recently, after learning from the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Assisting Education and Disabilities that some children in the hometown were at risk of dropping out due to financial difficulties, the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan initiated a donation appeal in its members’ WeChat group to support these children. The initiative received enthusiastic responses from members. Under the leadership of President Ryūji Watanabe and Executive President Keiko Soma, 1.5 million yen and 51,000 RMB were raised within just over half a month, totaling approximately 128,000 RMB. This effort was also strongly supported by overseas Chinese such as Wu Qilong, President of the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association. The funds will help 32 underprivileged students complete their studies, with each receiving 4,000 RMB in assistance。
The donation ceremony was hosted by Nian Jiasheng, Secretary-General of the Fuqing Huangbo Cultural Promotion Association。
Li Yunshu, Executive Vice President of the Japan Fujian Economic and Cultural Promotion Association and Honorary President of the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan, said in his speech, "Over the past two years, the pandemic has completely disrupted the daily lives and work rhythms of overseas Chinese in Japan, but our hearts remain connected to the children from underprivileged families in our hometown. While the pandemic has interrupted normal exchanges between our hometown and overseas communities, it cannot sever our care and compassion for bringing hope and warmth to these children. The Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan will continue to support various undertakings in Fuqing, contributing to the development of our hometown as overseas Chinese。”
Zheng Songbo, Vice President of the Fuqing Huangbo Cultural Promotion Association and representative of the Fuqing Liaison Office of the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan, said in his speech that Huangbo culture, originating in Fuqing, is a shared cultural element of China and Japan. It has become a bridge and bond of friendship between the peoples of the two nations, playing an important role in the development of Sino-Japanese relations. Today, Huangbo culture has also become a unifying force for overseas Chinese in Japan, serving as a platform for connection and exchange。
Chen Guanchun, President of the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Assisting Education and Disabilities, expressed gratitude for the charitable donations from the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan and other overseas Chinese。
He Hualong, Standing Committee Member of the CPPCC in Fuzhou and Fuqing, Chair of the Fuqing Municipal Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, and Assistant Principal of Fuqing No. 1 High School, stated that despite working hard abroad, overseas Chinese always remain deeply connected to their hometown. Achieving success in their endeavors, they never forget to give back to their roots. Particularly moving is that, even as the pandemic has reduced the incomes of most overseas Chinese, our compatriots in Japan continue to donate for the education of underprivileged students in Fuqing, with each contribution surpassing the previous one. This reflects their deep affection for their hometown. He hoped that the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Assisting Education and Disabilities would ensure proper use of the donated funds and deliver the care of overseas Chinese to the students in need. He also expressed hope that the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan would unite Fuqing-origin overseas Chinese in Japan to continue contributing to their own careers and to Sino-Japanese exchanges and cooperation。
During the ceremony, both parties signed a donation agreement. On behalf of the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan, Honorary President Li Yunshu and Supervisor Yang Liyu handed over the donated funds, totaling approximately 2.65 million yen (about 128,000 RMB), contributed by overseas Chinese in Japan to the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Assisting Education and Disabilities to support education in their hometown。
Chen Guanchun, President of the Fuqing City Volunteer Association for Assisting Education and Disabilities, presented a plaque for "Best Charitable Organization" and a donation certificate to Honorary President Li Yunshu and Supervisor Yang Liyu of the Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan。
Fuqing is a nationally renowned hometown of overseas Chinese, with many Fuqing-origin compatriots residing in Japan. The Fuqing Chamber of Commerce in Japan was officially registered in Tokyo on February 5, 2020. The first initiative after its establishment was to donate pandemic prevention materials to its hometown. At the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chamber made multiple donations to the Fuqing City Red Cross, including protective suits, masks, and medical gloves。
On the same day, Fuqing-born representatives from the Argentine Chinese community and Taiwanese compatriots also attended the event。
