Recently, the Fuqing CPPCC and the Fuqing Municipal Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party conducted a joint research activity on the situation of new generations of overseas Chinese.Participants included Chen Weiqing, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese Committee of the Fuqing CPPCC, Chen Tongyun, Full-time Deputy Chairman of the Fuqing Municipal Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, and He Hualong, Vice Chairman of the same committee. Representatives from relevant overseas-related departments in various towns also attended the activities。
During the symposium held between the research group and local Overseas Chinese Federation organizations, leaders such as Xie Meitao, Chairman of the Jiangjing Overseas Chinese Federation Branch, Chen Yandong, Chairman of the Gangtou Overseas Chinese Federation Branch, and He Daifa, Chairman of the Gaoshan Overseas Chinese Federation Branch, expressed their concerns.1.Many new generations of overseas Chinese were born abroad and received local education from an early age. As a result, many have limited proficiency in Chinese and a lack of understanding of Chinese culture. They are integrated into the local society in terms of nationality, culture, psychology, and ideology, making their emotional connection to their ancestral homeland less profound compared to the older generations.2.There is insufficient effort in protecting ancestral homes and ancestral halls of overseas Chinese. A lack of communication regarding the renovation or reconstruction of projects funded by overseas Chinese in their hometowns has led to misunderstandings among overseas Chinese. This leaves new generations without tangible roots when they visit, diminishing their connection to their heritage.3.For various reasons, some new generations of overseas Chinese face difficulties when trying to settle down permanently in China。
Through the research, participants concluded several recommendations:Organize more exchange activities such as summer and winter camps for overseas Chinese youth to strengthen cultural identity using culture as a bridge.Actively assist in protecting ancestral homes, ancestral halls, graves, and family shrines of overseas Chinese to preserve markers for new generations to reconnect with their roots and enhance their sense of belonging. Strengthen cooperation and exchanges with new generations of overseas Chinese in fields such as economy, technology, and culture to enhance their sense of achievement using economic and trade ties as a foundation.Gather information about the overseas Chinese community and solicit their opinions and suggestions regarding the development of their hometowns. Prioritize a people-centered approach to better serve overseas Chinese。
Participants emphasized that Fuqing's prosperity owes much to the advantages of being a prominent overseas Chinese hometown. In the new era, as the new generations of overseas Chinese rise rapidly, strengthening their engagement is crucial for further leveraging the advantages of Fuqing as an overseas Chinese hometown and achieving faster development。
